[Postfixbuch-users] Postfix und smtp_auth

Hallo,

ich versuche gerade mit smtp_sasl_auth meine Mails zu versenden, aber es 
will mit postfix nicht recht gelingen.
ein Versenden über telnet klappt reibungslos (wenn ich micht recht 
erinnere): 
telnet smtp.domain.xx 25
EHLO irgend.was
AUTH PLAIN 
username0username0password (base64 kodiert) 
darauf erhalte ich ein "go ahead" - also passt soweit.
Das direkte Versenden an den Mailserver des Providers funktioniert 
einwandfrei, soweit ich mit Hilfe der Canonical meine Domain (sie ist 
extern gehostet, lokal habe ich nur eine frei erfundene) austauschen 
lasse.

Installiert is Debian Sarge.
Postfix 2.1.4-5

Aber beunruhigender scheint mir folgendes aus /var/log/syslog:

Soll das heissen, dass ich für die sasl Unterstützung postfix neu 
kompilieren muss oder fehlt mir nur irgend ein Paket?

Gibt es für diesen Zweck eine alternative Autentifizierungsmethode die 
nicht auf sasl zurückgreift?
