Debian Etch als eingesetztes BS und VHCS als Verwaltungssystem 

Das Steht in meiner Main.cf
smtpd_sasl_authenticated_header = yes
smtpd_sasl_auth_enable = yes
smtpd_sasl_type = cyrus
smtpd_sasl_security_options = noanonymous
smtpd_sasl_local_domain = vhcs.net
broken_sasl_auth_clients = yes

Als Dienst ist bei mir allerdings kein Sasl geladen da die ganze Abfrage über
Courier/authdaemon läuft.

die smtp.conf heist bei mit smtp.sasl und wird soweit ich weis nicht benutzt 

evtl. suchst du mal in dieser Richtung
